These 101 songs are all postmissionary and owe their musical origin to missionary hymns. None of them are technically chants but some, such as " 'Alika," "Hole Wai-mea," and "Maika'i Kaua'i," are chants that have been edited and set to music. The songs date from the mid-1850's to 1968—the date of Mary Kawena Pukui's Christmas song translations. The majority are from the time of the monarchy and so are already somewhat venerable. Nearly all are sung often today and are well known to Hawaiian singers. The texts have never before been written consistently with the glottal stops and macrons that make them nearly pronounceable by one not knowing Hawaiian. Many of them have not been translated before, or have been freely adapted rather than translated. Rarely have so many been assembled under one cover....

Previous to the year 1906 the researches of the Bureau were restricted to the American Indians, but by act of Congress approved June 30 of that year the scope of its operations was extended to include the natives of the Hawaiian islands. It's an old English song which often found its way into many English text books the world over. A primitive prototype rendering of this song was made in a crude tape recorder decades earlier, in 1984. In 2014, a home made video of this song was released. This third version is comparatively better. The next version, we hope, would be fully orchestrated. This song was originally part of the project PROPÈS INDIA or Project For The Popularization of English Songs In India, recorded from an English class by Mr. P S Remesh Chandran. Today it belongs to Bloom Books Channel’s Sing A Song Project for children. He took her in his arms and went to the decorated sitting room, where the birthday cake with her name inscribed on it was kept. The cone shaped caps she had bought for her friends to wear for the party were heaped on a table without any takers. The small carry home packets containing chocolates and balloons for the little guests lay slumbering on the table. He pulled a chair in front of the teapoy on which the cake was kept. The knife with a red ribbon tied on it was kept by the side of it. He took the knife and handed it over to Suji.
