History

The National anthem of Iran was adopted in the year 1990 which replaced the anthem used during Ayatollah Khomeini's era.

Music of the National anthem of Iran was composed by Hassan Riahi while the lyrics were written by Sa'ed Bagheri. As an important national symbol of the country, the National anthem of Iran is sung on important occasions of national significance. The national anthem of Iran mostly glorifies the achievements of people who fought for the country's freedom and sovereignty. It further speaks of the Iranian's immense faith in God. The lyrics of the anthem evoke a spirit of patriotism and eulogize the struggles and endurance of the martyrs in the history of Iran. The effort and endurance towards becoming an Islamic Republic of Iran still seem to reverberate in the ears of the Iranians.[2]

Sar zad az ofogh mehre khâvarân
Forughe dideye haghbâvarân
Bahman, farre imâne māst
Payâmat ey Emâm, esteghlâl, âzâdi, naghšhe jâne mâst
Šhahidân, pichide dar gušhe zamân faryâdetân
Pâyandeh mâni o jâvedân
Jomhuriye Eslâmiye Irân
Upwards on the horizon rises the Eastern Sun
The light in the eyes of the believers in justice
The Month of Bahman is the brilliance of our faith.
Your message, O Imam, of independence, freedom, is imprinted on our souls
O Martyrs! Your clamours echo in the ears of time:
Enduring, continuing, and eternal,
The Islamic Republic of Iran
