George H. W. Bush Republican
Bill Clinton Democratic
The 1992 United States presidential election in California took place on November 3, 1992 throughout all 50 states and D.C., which was part of the 1992 United States presidential election. Voters chose 54 representatives, or electors to the Electoral College, who voted for President and Vice President. This was the first time that California had voted for a Democratic presidential nominee since Lyndon B. Johnson in the 1964 election, and Clinton's win in this state changed its status from reliably Republican to decisively Democratic to the present, and the state maintains the largest number of electoral votes in the Electoral College.
1964. Ross Perot won only one county: Trinity County, California.
California has voted increasingly Democratic despite Reagan's decisive wins in his home state during the promise to never raise taxes, causing a split of voters to defect towards Ross Perot. This ultimately gave Bill Clinton a double digit victory in California, despite Bush's small margin of victory just four years earlier.
