Music career

Brown Eyed Girls

Son Ga-In was noticed by the existing members of Brown Eyed Girls after she was eliminated during auditions for the popular South Korean reality series Let's Coke Play! Battle Shinhwa!. According to Ga-In, she was crying in the bathroom following her failed audition when she was approached by composer Ahn Jung Hoon, and was invited to audition at Brown Eyed Girls' company, eventually joining the group. The four members performed several small shows under the name "Crescendo" before officially debuting as Brown Eyed Girls in 2006.[1]

2010: Gain's first solo album

In October 2010 Gain started her solo activities through her album Step 2/4, the first teaser for her music video was released on October 4 [1], the second teaser one day later [2].

It was revealed that Gain worked with a university professor for tango choreography of the title track Irreversible'. The professor Park Myung soo - teaching at the Seoul Arts University - choreographed the dance to portray the emotional lyrics of the dance. [3]

On October 8 the music video for Irreversible was released [4] The song earned much attention for the tango influence and the dramatic music video, which is almost 11 minutes long. A few days later the dance version was released [5], which showcased Gain dancing in the desert.

The song also managed to win a music program award on Inkigayo, which was Gain's first win as a solo artist. [6]

2011: Group comeback, agency switch

After the promotions of Brown Eyed Girls' fourth album, it was revealed that Ga-In had signed a contract with Loen Entertainment, who will manage her future solo and acting career. According to an official at Loen Entertainment, "She will continue with her group activities under her current firm, Nega Network, which is a collaborative label with Loen. The official has assured that this will not hinder her group activities in any way and Loen will solely be responsible for her solo releases.[2]

2012: Gain's 2nd solo album, Someone Else

Gain in 2012

At midnight of April 22 KST, JYP and Ga-In released a duet track titled, ”Someone Else". This is the first song JYP released in about two years.

In 2012 Gain made her comeback with her second solo album and revealed the tracklist and album name on September 24 [7]. The album Talk About S includes five tracks, the title song Bloom is written by Kim Eana and composed by Lee Minsoo, who have also worked on her first solo album. In the following days several teasers were released for the individual songs, such as Tinkerbell [8], Catch Me If You Can [9], Meet Her [10] and Gaze [11].

The whole music video and album were finally released on October 5 [12], later on she also won an award on M! Countdown with her title track [13].

2013: Psy's Gentleman, group comeback, features for Show Luo, agency switch

In April 13, 2013, she was featured in PSY's music video "Gentleman", along with the "arrogant" dance popularized in the Brown Eyed Girls song "Abracadabra".[3]

On July 4, a teaser image was released via Facebook and Twitter for Brown Eyed Girls' long awaited comeback. July 9 marked the release of a digital single "Recipe". After the success of their digital single, they released their 5th studio album, Black Box, on July 25. "KILL BILL was announced as the title track and is composed by Lee Gyu Hyun and Jea. October 2013, Ga-In also broke onto the CPOP scene, featuring in Show Luo's music video for "愛投羅網 官方完整版 (Cast The Net Of Love)" .[4]

It was also revealed that Gain parted her ways with LOEN entertainment and now promotes under APOP Entertainment. [14]

2014: Gain's third mini album

At the end on January Gain revealed to make a comeback with her 3rd mini album Truth or Dare on February 6 [15] and released a teaser picture along with the news. On January 22 Gain released a mysterious and sexy teaser still-cut from her pre-release track 'Fxxk U'. [16]

A day later she released a shocking teaser for the song [17]. The teaser shows two silhouettes behind a shower curtain, at the end Gain says the words Fuck you. It was revealed that the song will be a simple yet melodious and has a classic guitar. Also Bumkey features in the song.

On January 27 the MV and song was finally released [18]. The song tells about an intense and rocky relationship between Gain and actor Joo Ji Hoon, who are caught in an physically and emotionally abusive relationship. The music video was revealed along with the whole album. The lyricist Kim Eana and composer Lee Minsoo worked on the title track, just like on her previous song Bloom. [19] The title song Truth or Dare deals with the risky topic of rumors and their effect on celebrities and their life.

Other work

In October 2009, Ga-In was placed in the Dream Team project group for Samsung called 4Tomorrow along with KARA's Seungyeon, After School's UEE and 4Minute's HyunA.[5] Each girl is from the top K-Pop Girl groups that dominated the music scene at the time. Together, they "debuted" as a fictitious girl group for Samsung's Anycall campaign with a CF/MV called "Tomorrow". Although, the group was only scheduled to last two months, they released six music dramas.

In 2006, Ga-In did a collaboration single called "Must Have Love" with SG Wannabe's leader Kim Yong Jun.

She also released digital single "We Fell in Love" (우리 사랑하게 됐어요), composed by Jea, with then We Got Married partner 2AM Jo Kwon. The song was voted #1 in several music programs in January, 2010

Television work

Ga-in appeared on We Got Married with 2AM's Jo Kwon starting from September 2009. Their virtual marriage came to an end after 15 months in January 2011.

She made her acting debut in MBC daily sitcom All My Love. She was the female lead, "Geumji". She acted alongside her virtual husband Jo Kwon, who played the role as her younger twin brother, "Okyeop". Her character was the love interest of Yoon Doo-joon (from BEAST) character also named "Yoon Doo Joon". However, owing to schedule conflicts, her filming of the sitcom ended in May, 2011.

Personal life

On May 9, 2014, both Ga-In's and actor Ju Ji-hoon's agency both confirmed that they are dating.[6][7][8][9]
