The Rojos del Águila de Veracruz (English: Veracruz Red Eagles) are a AAA-level baseball team playing in the Mexican League.

They play at the Estadio Universitario Beto Ávila in Veracruz, Veracruz.

The game of baseball in Veracruz was driven by American and British oil companies, settled in the city in the early twentieth century. For obvious reasons they first promoted this sport among employees, producing the first games of baseball.

Bosses and managers of these U.S. companies played baseball, and the people of Veracruz was interested in this sport, hence the employees began to have games with the bosses. These in turn were encouraged to purchase uniforms for employees, even in those who from that time predominated and red.

The oil company had more interest in promoting baseball in the harbor among employees was that of the Eagle , and this was an historic moment in local baseball because they were born here precisely the Veracruz Rojos del Aguila, on September 16 of 1903 .

The team Veracruz is one of the most traditional of the Mexican League, which won the bicampeonato in seasons of 1937 and 1938 , precisely when it began keeping statistics in the LMB, the Cuban Agustín Green was the manager who gave that pair club championship at Buenos Aires. Subsequently they won titles corresponding to the seasons of 1952 and 1961 , both under the direction of Cuban Santos Amaro , and also Cuban Enrique Izquierdo won the fifth pennant in the campaign of 1970 .

Since its inception, the "Eagle" played in Veracruz Sports Park until 1986 , when he retired from the league, the campaign back in 1992 , adopting its headquarters in the University Sports Park "Beto Ávila" . Undoubtedly, in 1938 if a ballplayer was honorable mention was the Cuban Martin Dihigo , who began to back the team to achieve the second title in the history of the Eagle again directed by Agustín Green . Current decade

So far in this decade, Eagle Reds have been light and shade with respect to their sports, as in the 2010 season had one of their worst seasons to obtain a record of 39 won by 66 lost, and a percentage of 371. Being also the penultimate of the league just above the Owls of Nuevo Laredo , which played .308 percentage. Despite the poor season, highlighted the Dominican Victor Diaz and Jorge Guzman, leader and deputy leader of runs in the LMB with 29 and 22 respectively. In addition, the Dominican was also the leader of careers produced with 96.

For the 2011 season , the Reds were in draft of players who made the LMB Francisco Mendez and Manuel Bobadilla, both from the Dorados de Chihuahua . subsequently made of the services of experienced pitcher Juan Acevedo. These reinforcements, combined with some good players already the club, made the Buenos Aires team got the third place in the South Zone with a record of 54 won by 49 lost, and a percentage of .524. Furthermore, the Eaglets were the best group in the league pitching with a 4.24 ERA. All this under the direction of Manager cardelense Daniel Fernandez , who was hired for this campaign.

In the single line for the second consecutive season the team Jarocho had among its ranks the leader runs the LMB, this time the Ensenada Jorge Guzman hit 39 homers. Worth mentioning that in addition to the home run lead, the "Black" won record of more Guzmán Home runs connected by an Eagle player, surpassing the 33 who had previously managed the Cuban Rogelio "Borrego" Alvarez in 1970 , and American Mark Whiten in the 2001 season . In addition to Jorge Guzman who also managed 97 RBIs , some of the players who stood out in this campaign were Victor Diaz, who hit 34 homers and got 89 RBIs and the Pitcher Joel Vargas who scored 11 wins and an ERA of 3.60.

In the first round of the playoffs , the Red Bird faced the Campeche Pirates , whom he defeated in a tight series of 4 games to 3, achieving qualification for the Championship Series Southern Zone as a visitor, in the Estadio Nelson Barrera Romellón of Campeche , Campeche . Note that the Red Machine Port not won a playoff series since the campaign of 1994 , which coincidentally defeated the Pirates in 7 games themselves, only on that occasion were classified as local in the University Sports Park "Beto Ávila" of Veracruz , Veracruz . Unfortunately in the Championship Series Southern Zone , locals Reds lost to the Quintana Roo Tigers for 4 games to 2, thus ending a great season for the club Veracruz .

At the conclusion of the regular role of the current 2012 season , the Buenos Aires team finished in second place in the South Zone with a record of 67 wins, 44 lost and a tie game for a percentage of .604, was also the best pitching group of the league with a 3.69 ERA, winning this department for the second consecutive season. Collective pitching also had 12 shutouts, while also achieving the league lead in this area. Another of the categories he won the pitching team were feathered with 990.2 innings pitched, and the saves with 36, the latter shared with the Olmec of Tabasco . It is noteworthy that the last time the squad porteña had played up to .600 was in 1952 , 60 years ago when they were champions for the third time in the circuit.

In the single line, the pitcher mochitense Thomas Solis scored the lead with 2 shutouts, and games won at the end with 14-4 win-loss record, a title he shared (games won) with the pitcher Monterrey Humberto Montemayor the Rieleros de Aguascalientes , which ended with a 14-6 record. Besides also told the leader of the league saves in the person of Dominican Jailen Peguero , which won 35 rescues.

Apart from the three individual titles that got the feathered in the departments of shutouts, wins and saves, it is noteworthy that four of their starting pitchers (all season) the team gave him the opportunity to earn 41 wins out of 67 achieved in the tournament, and that apart from the 14 wins of Thomas Solis, Manuel Flores, who also emphasized won 11 games and lost 5, Victor Alvarez who won nine games and lost 2, and Rodolfo Aguirre won 7 games and lost 6, a revealing fact of good and consistent was the Red Bird pitching during the regular season.

Another point to note is that jarocha began the ninth season under Manager Puerto Rican Orlando Merced, which unfortunately was suspended by the league the rest of the campaign, by an act of indiscipline before the game between the Reds Eagle and the Diablos Rojos del Mexico , held on Sunday June 10 at the Foro Sol of Mexico City . Because of this situation, the former team's batting coach, Peter Mere Cardenas, had to take the helm of Veracruz ship. Postseason 2012

In Serie del Rey, Eagle Reds faced the Rieleros de Aguascalientes , whom they defeated in a tight final series 4 games to 3, achieving Jarocho team win their sixth championship in the Mexican League . The MVP trophy went to the pitcher Dominican Lorenzo Barcelo , who won two key victories in Serie del Rey. The nomination for Barceló, who finished the playoffs with 6-0 record, was a distinction just over Veracruz Humberto Sosa , who wore five gunboat produced in Game 4 and key batazos in Game 6, in the voting the press.
