Summary
The book deals with Peru's dilema: A country rich in natural resources and yet with alarming levels of poverty. The author draws a parallel between the life of Antonio Raimondi and the historical frustrations of the country in managing its natural resources. After describing these riches and the causes of their mismanagement, the author concludes that lack of political concensus and unstable economic policies are their main cause. The country requires a model of sustainable development that provides incentives to private sector investment while enhancing environmental management and building upon Peru's comparative advantages provided by its rich biodiversity.
