Summary
The Daily Mood Barometer is an educational book on a journaling system invented by Kerra Harris-Bray. The purpose of this book is to help people from all walks of life to be able to be more aware of exactly how they are feeling on a daily basis. This journaling system is a sophisticated mood tracker that can be custom tailored to fit the needs of any individual. The system uses a five point scale that helps determine a number and percentage that reflects the emotional score for the day. This figure can then be compared overtime to the days that follow, and a person can identify what is an abnormally high score for them. Once a high score is identified action can be taken to prevent a crisis situation, and even hospitalization. The Daily Mood Barometer is a tool that can be used by all ages to track moods, weight loss, and general wellness. In addition, this tool helps individuals who implement using it on a frequent basis to develop a healthy emotional vocabulary and emotional awareness. Dedication to using this tool results in having a personal written and recorded history that helps anyone who uses it to become their own best self-advocate. Using “The Daily Mood Barometer” is like taking a snapshot of your current state of wellness and making it into a flip book over time. Anyone who uses it will be able to see their emotional progress as if it were a movie in slow motion.

Excerpt
“How do you feel?” If you don’t know how to answer this question then this book is for you, and if you do know how to answer this question then this book is also for you. Keeping a “Daily Mood Barometer” or “DMB” can be exceptionally useful for anyone who suffers from mental illness or for anyone who takes medications, anyone trying to lose weight, or anyone who simply wants to be more emotionally aware about their self. The daily practice of stating how you feel helps people from all walks of life and ages to become more emotionally aware of their self and also able to tell others who support them such as parents, friends, social workers, doctors, and family members, in a broader vocabulary of how they are feeling in place of saying “I don’t feel good” or “I don’t know how I feel”. Developing an emotional vocabulary through emotional awareness is something that benefits everyone regardless of age or situation. The sooner you start the sooner you will begin to reap the benefits of the “DMB”. Some of the benefits of doing this on a daily basis are being able to identify areas that need attention before the point of hospitalization, having a visual number to be able to tell if you are doing better or worse than the day before, and you will have a recorded document of your situation to show to those who support you such as your family or doctors.
