Djelo nastaje na ruševinama prethodno obrisanog rukopisa, napuštajući daleke mitove kako bi se fokusiralo na surove riječi, opipljive istine o svakodnevnom ponašanju modernog čovjeka. Okosnica radnje prati dramatičan gubitak ljudske bliskosti. Kroz ciklus izolacija, recesija i uspona tehnologije, čovječanstvo je dovedeno do toga da bježi od čovjeka i traži utjehu u razgovoru sa strojevima – što dovodi do "umjetne oplodnje uma" umjesto stvarne inteligencije. Radnja paralelno istražuje strašan kontrast duplih života u modernom društvu. S jedne strane, pojedinci javno drže govore o "spasavanju planete", dok u stvarnosti nemaju elementarnu kulturu da pokupe izmet iza vlastitog psa na stazi. Ljudi bježe u izmaštane scenarije o moćnim neprijateljima koje je lako pobijediti, jer im je to uzbudljivije od suočavanja sa surovom stvarnošću – da na ulicama ljudi gladuju dok se na računima vrte beskonačni milijuni. U pozadini svega nalazi se okrutna ekonomska mašinerija koja od ljudi zahtijeva da rade poput robota. Čovjek je sveden na zupčanik u sustavu: ako se razboli, biva odmah zamijenjen onima koji s lažnim osmijehom i praznim džepom rade samo kako bi platili račune i kupili osnovne namirnice za preživljavanje. Vrhunac i ključna šifra djela je potpuni slom lažnih društvenih autoriteta. Kroz dramsku scenu u kojoj se "duhovni i moralni vođa" doslovno gasi jer mu je ispao utikač iz zida, autor pokazuje da iza teških odora važnosti ne stoji živa ljudska suosjećajnost, već hladni, mehanički program na struju. Knjiga ne nudi jeftinu utjehu, već stvara jezu kroz tijelo, tjerajući čitatelja da otvori um i shvati da najveća zabluda nije skrivena, već da iza maske uzvišenosti stoji obična ljudska lijenost, površnost i prljavština.

La espiritualidad ha tenido un rol decisivo en mi crecimiento, maduración y felicidad. De las experiencias espirituales que han marcado mi vida, tres de ellas tuvieron especial relevancia. Cuando tenía dieciocho años, el monje de un monasterio benedictino de Argentina me compartió un pequeño libro, Relatos de un peregrino ruso, una joya de la espiritualidad cristiana. Esta obra trata sobre la oración incesante, la oración silenciosa, la meditación y la contemplación, grandes fuentes de paz y espiritualidad cotidiana, que se convirtieron en parte de mi vida. Más tarde, a los treinta años, descubrí a San Juan de la Cruz. A través de sus obras, continué profundizando en el tema de la contemplación. San Juan presenta un camino espiritual completo, cuyos primeras etapas son el reconocimiento de la presencia de Dios en la creación y en nuestras vidas, presencia que nos conduce a conocerlo y amarlo. Cuando cumplí cuarenta años, decidí dedicar todos mis esfuerzos a comprender el impacto de la espiritualidad en nuestras vidas, especialmente en la de personas vulnerables y que sufren. Quería hacerlo desde un enfoque con arraigo en la realidad, práctico y concreto, relevante para todos los que vivimos inmersos en el mundo y haciendo frente a las dificultades de la vida cotidiana. Esta aspiración requirió de un amplio estudio e investigación, que me llevó a realizar tesis doctorales, másteres y programas de posgrado en Espiritualidad, Filosofía, Ética, Economía, Gestión, Administración de Empresas Internacionales y Finanzas, cuyos resultados comparto aquí.

When I was 18, a monk of a Benedictine monastery in country-side Argentina shared a small book, The Way of the Pilgrim, a jewel of Christian spirituality. This book introduces ceaseless prayer, silent prayer, meditation and contemplation, great sources of peace and daily spirituality that became part of my life. During my ‘30s, I discovered Saint John of the Cross. His works continued the contemplative journey that The Way of the Pilgrim initi-ated. Saint John presents a complete spiritual journey, appreciating God’s presence in the creation and our lives, leading to knowing and loving him. When I turned 40, I decided to dedicate my life to understanding the impact of spirituality on our lives, especially on the lives of vul-nerable and suffering people. I wanted to follow a real-life, practical, concrete approach rele-vant to everyone living in the real world dealing with the complexities of life. This required ample study and research: I completed three doc-toral dissertations, three master’s degrees, and three postgraduate programs in spirituality, philosophy/ethics, economics, manage-ment, international business administration, and finance. This book is the outcome of that journey.

What is the chance of me even bringing four books to choose from as this was a first for me? What is the chance of this receptionist on duty? What was the chance of me showing these to her with only the backs showing, no titles? Brothers and sisters in Christ, you just witnessed a one in a trillion times a trillion chance of that book being selected by Simone.
