INTRODUCTION The Group reviewed a broad range of issues that included the place of health manpower planning as an intezral part of national planning, the need for a comprehensive approach to planning, the results of selected studies already undertaken, and the methods used in these studies. Although WHO has long been concerned with health manpower, this Scientific Group was the first specifically convened by WHO to review the current situation. The Group put f o r ~ a r dse veral recommendations that it believed would assist Member States in establishing health manpower studies.
