The measurement of [lie protective activity of typhoid vaccincs in terms of InternationalU nits of the International Refei-ence Preparations of Typhoid Vaccine is not vetossiblc.o wing- to the inconelusive results of the international collaborative laboratory studies (Spaun & Uernura, 1964). In this labol-atorv since 1959 we have beell estimating the potency of typhoid vaccine by the active mouse protection test with a single imlnunization and subscquent cliallcnge 2 weeks later. Our work Ibr the above-msnt~oned international collaborative studies lcd us to thc conclusion that the intraperitoneal route oi imnlunizaiion gives results whicli correspond to the findings obtained in humansa conclusion that was not supported by thc statistical analysis of the combined results or the international collaborative sludies (Spaun & Uemura, 1964).
