Excerpt
Excerpt: The association between the development of pulmonary disease in humans and the administration of various chemicals has been made with increasing frequency in recent years. In particular, the increased incidence of diffuse pulmonary fibrosis in patients receiving various forms of cancer chemotherapy has implicated the lung as a primary target for a number of cytotoxic agents. Drug-induced lung disease is difficult to diagnose with any degree of certainty due to the many variables encountered in studying a human population. Factors such as medical history, variable immune status, possible role of infection and interaction with other drugs or irradiation make it difficult to identify the causal factor(s) in the development of pulmonary disease.
