Be it incursions by Viking into France and Britain, Napoleonic wars, or invasion by Genghis khan and the Ottoman Empire Europe has been a battleground for territory and influence over the centuries. Europe also embodies western culture in its literature, art, and music, all of which reflect the diversity and history of its people. Transfer of goods and ideas among European countries as well as with Asia, Africa, and the Americas is also Europe's legacy. At its height in the 1900s, the British Empire included over 20 percent of the World's land area and more than 400 million people.
