Excerpt: New orders for manufactured goods in March increased $0.4 billion or 0. percent to $378.2 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau reported today. This followed a 0.5 percent February decrease. Shipments, up five of the last six months, increased $5.0 billion or 1.3 percent to $387.3 billion. This followed a 1.5 percent February decrease. Unfilled orders, down two of the last three months, decreased $1.9 billion or 0.3 percent to $552.9 billion. This followed a 0.5 percent February increase. The unfilled orders-to-shipments ratio was 3.93, down from 3.95 in February. Inventories, up sixteen consecutive months, increased $2.8 billion or 0.6 percent to $484. billion. This followed a 0.6 percent February increase. The inventories-to-shipments ratio was 1.25, down from 1.26 in February.
