Excerpt
Excerpt: This July marks the 50th anniversary of the Trinity test near Alamogordo, N.M. No one knows for sure why J. Robert Oppenheimer, the first director of Los Alamos, chose the name “Trinity” for the test, which successfully capped two years, three months, and 16 days of scientific research and preparation. But the name signifies the dawn of the atomic age and the first of many scientific achievements for what ultimately became known as Los Alamos National Laboratory.
