Description
A ten-year-old orphan comes to live in a lonely house on the Yorkshire moors and discovers an invalid cousin and the mysteries of a locked garden.

Summary
Mary Lennox, a spoiled and sickly ten-year-old, is orphaned by a cholera outbreak in British India and sent to live at Misselthwaite Manor, her reclusive uncle's great house on the Yorkshire moors. Left mostly to herself, she hears of a walled garden that has been locked since her aunt's death ten years before, and with the help of a robin, the old gardener Ben Weatherstaff and the moor boy Dickon she finds the key and begins to bring the garden back to life. Hidden away in the house is her cousin Colin, an invalid who is convinced he will not live to grow up. As the children tend the garden in secret, both are transformed: Mary becomes curious and kind, and Colin gains the strength to walk and to face his father. First serialized in 1910 and published as a book in 1911, Frances Hodgson Burnett's novel is one of the best-loved classics of children's literature, a story about friendship, the natural world and the healing power of fresh air and hope.
