Do Not Be Afraid, I Am Always With You

By: Rev. James G. Davis

I wrote this little book for a very special girl I know who is sometimes afraid. I’m not going to mention her by name, but she knows who she is. I know she doesn’t like to be afraid, but sometimes all of us are afraid, even though none of us want to be afraid. Things happen in our lives and before we know it we’re afraid. It doesn’t feel good to be afraid. None of us like feeling afraid. This little book is for her to use with her mom and dad. I hope there are some things in this book that help her understand why we become afraid and what we can do when we’re afraid. I hope this book helps her to not be so afraid and when she is afraid to understand what she can do to help herself and maybe by doing so to be able to help others. ...

When I’m afraid, it helps me to take a few deep breathes and to remember Jesus is always with me – in my mind and in my heart – blessing me with whatever I need to get through the scary times in my life. Doing this almost always helps me calm down, do what I need to do, and be at peace even though I might still be afraid....

The Broken Wings of Forgiveness : Seven Beacons of Hope

By: Richard Shekari

Michael, a humble, devoted, kind husband and a caring father was struck by a tragedy that weakens his faith in good. He abandons everything to seek and to serve cold justice to those behind it. As he joins forces with a powerful and mysterious deity on the condition that he has to save mankind and most importantly, track down his real enemies. The battle he faces makes him embrace his sole purpose in life, but what he later discovers will either make or break him....

As the elevator doors slowly slid open, Michael stepped out with a rush, navigating through cubicles with no time to answer the greetings from his office colleagues and as the secretary spotted him smiling with a concerned look she said, ‘Hey Michael, the senior has been buzzing for the past thirty minutes and everybody is worried! Is everything . . .’ ‘Yes, Clara, everything’s fine! Thanks for asking. Traffic was hell!’ He interrupted as he panted; Michael hurriedly picked a piece of candy from a bowl on her desk and threw it into his mouth. ‘Bad boy!’ Clara said, smiling as he made his way into the conference room. ‘Well, don’t give Junior an edge to uproot one of your plants, darling!’ she added, then they both giggled. A text came into his cell phone, he checked it and sender ID read ‘P. James’ he ignored it, putting the cell phone back into his pocket as he opened the door and shut it behind him. Clara bit her lower lip suggestively, staring at his bum but he didn’t notice. Michael bent his head and quietly manoeuvred to locate his seat in the boardroom, the board stopped chatting, setting all their eyes on him until he...

Huckleberry Finn : Easy English Edition

By: Dave Mckay

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was first printed in 1884, eight years after Mark Twain wrote The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. It starts up where the other story finished, and the two books together are believed to be the best that Mark Twain ever wrote. There are truths that Twain tries to get people to think about through this book. One is to make us laugh at some of the crazy things that we believe without any good reason to believe them; and the other is is to make us question the way that people thought about slaves at the time of the story, in America in the 1850s. This book has been written in easy-to-understand English, in order to help people learning English as a second language....

Equlibrium : Collected Poetry of Linda Bohe, in Memoriam 1950-1983

By: Ms. Linda Ruth Bohe; Marc Lee Weber, Editor

From a military family, Linda Bohe grew up in various parts of the country. Her childhood was mostly in the South, her mid-teens to young adulthood in Colorado. She later resided in New York City, where many of her poems are set. Linda studied with Alan Dugan, William Matthews and Richard Hugo among others. Her terse syntax perhaps reminds one of Hugo, but with an eclectic bent. Her broad range of poetic taste was shown in the magazine, Attaboy, which she edited with Phoebe MacAdams. Among other writers of her generation with whom she was in close personal contact were Jayne Anne Phillips, Wendy Battin, Nancy Schoenberger, and Susan Tichy. ...

Detour I drive two thousand miles to leave you and find your shadow, spine whipped by wind, in snow-filled valleys where hills are hidden in white air and fields sleep. You will yourself into this landscape the way one can staunch the flow of blood or simulate death. My car window is a camera lens. I watch a train curve along tracks and into a tunnel. The moon spills across land so cold the cattle moan. My map is crumpled and I read it like a letter. Fifty miles before I reach a new home. Relief comes in waves, shocks without a center. ...

assignment : assignment4u, Volume 1: assignment4u

By: joe root; joe root

One of the most highly debated matter in education today is that if every individual is unique and have their own personal interests and abilities, then why do we force them down with the same syllabus and measure them on a certain criteria of writing what they memorized on a piece of paper? While this question has no easy solutions and consequently the existing system of evaluating students will probably remain the same in near future, there is however a narrow path that bypasses this system and lets students pursue and shine in the fields they truly like. The views on extracurricular is also equally conflicting- some see it as way a way of recreation, others are quick to reject and see it as nothing more than mere wastage of time. So taking both sides on account, let’s take a look at how important are extracurricular for students, if at all: ...

1. Recreation The first and the most popular benefit that people know of extracurricular is that they are good for recreation. While this notion is correct to some extent, there is a lot left to be added. The world extracurricular envelops a vast number of activities (not related to the curriculum of students) including but not limited to painting, dancing, sports, music, pottery, among others. While the notion of recreation may apply to some of this activities like sports, there are other activities that are in themselves more time consuming and intricate than the curriculum itself and done solely out of interest and not recreation. Also, there are students who are truly interested in studies and forcing them to recreate is as good as wasting their time and energy. 2. Aptitude Often overlooked by many, this is a major importance of extracurricular that helps shape and affirm one’s aptitude. We can tell a lot about any student if we know the extracurricular they take part in. Since these activities are done out of interest than compulsion, things they learn and achieve sticks with them for longer times and eventually shapes ...

Florovsky’s 'The Boundaries of the Church’ in Dialogue with the Reformed Tradition : Toward a Catholic and Charismatic Ecumenical Ecclesiology", Ecumenical Trends 39: 3 (2010), 8-14, Volume 39:3

By: Ph.D. Steven D. Aguzzi

"The purpose of this essay is threefold. First, I seek to trace a brief history of the concept of catholicity within the Reformed tradition and offer this historical context as an explanation for its resistance to traditional conceptions of the Church. Second, I will show how Georges Florovsky’s work “The Boundaries of the Church,” offers a better point of reference for Orthodox dialogue with Churches of the Reformed Tradition than other Orthodox ecclesiologies, such as those based solely on St. Cyprian’s model, and the ecclesiology of N. Afanassieff. Last, I will use John Calvin’s ideas on the church in Institutes of the Christian Religion to show that certain contemporary Reformed ecclesiologies do not take into consideration the early Calvinist emphasis on catholicity. Using the early Christological controversies of Monophysitism and Nestorianism and applying them to ecclesiology, I will illustrate how both the traditionalist Orthodox and evangelical Reformed views of the Church are weak, make extreme claims on the nature of the Church, and must come closer to the center for dialogue. There is hope if doctrinal agreement coul...

Philosophical Aphorisms: Critical Encounters with Heidegger and Nietzsche

By: Daniel Fidel Ferrer, Mr.

Experiment with the Philosophical Aphorism. Following Nietzsche's methodology and ambition, I want to say in this "book" more than anyone else said anywhere at any time. The key insight was in ascertaining Nietzsche's depth and understanding of the methodology of aphorisms. All of the great philosophers Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Kant, Schelling, Hegel, Nietzsche, and Heidegger uniquely and creatively altered the very nature of philosophy through the fundamental and radical transformation of the essential nature of the philosophical methodology. I am going to try to follow their pathway in my own small approach. Hardback book is 336 pages....

Air Force Research Institute Papers 2010-1 : RPAs: Revolution or Retrogression?

By: David R. Mets, PhD

A historian’s occupational disease is to find old precedents for practically everything new that comes along. And that is true for remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) as well. In one way they are merely the continuation of the millennia-old human longing for methods of striking or observing one’s enemies while remaining safe. The purpose of this essay is to briefly explore that which is old, to dwell for a time on what seems to be new, and to conclude with some speculations about the future of unmanned systems....

The Development of Military Night Aviation to 1919

By: William Edward Fischer Jr.

This study examines the development of military night aviation from its origins through the First World War. Emphasis is on the evolution of night flying in those countries which fought on the Western Front, namely France, Germany, Great Britain, and the United States . While night flying occurred in other theaters, the most intense air effort was clearly in t°he west. There, belligerents pressed aviation technology and tactics to the limits ; the skies of northern France and Flanders offered the only opportunity for movement across the stagnated front. Another important consideration was the availability of rich documentation concerning night aerial activity in the theater....

He Moolelo No Maui Hikina-Kalialinui I Uka a Me Na Aina O Lalo : A Cultural-Historical Study of East Maui — the Uplands of Kalialinui, And the Lands That Lie Below, Island of Maui, The Waikamoi Preserve

By: Kepa Maly

The following collection of archival and oral historical-consultation records pertaining to Waikamoi Preserve and the greater watershed of the Haleakala mountain lands on the island of Maui, was compiled by Kumu Pono Associates LLC, at the request of The Nature Conservancy-Hawaii. This study provides The Nature Conservancy and its partners in management of the Waikamoi Preserve, with a cultural assessment of the Waikamoi Preserve, as required by State review laws governing The Nature Conservancys stewardship of the preserves natural resources. The primary documentation (both archival and oral historical), was collected by the authors over the period of six years, and provides readers with access to a rich and diverse collection of cultural- historical narratives from the island of Maui. The study focuses on lands situated on the eastern slopes of Haleakala, a region traditionally called Maui Hikina, with particular emphasis on those lands which make up and adjoin “Waikamoi Preserve.” These lands represent some of the most significant native forest resources remaining in the Hawaiian Islands, and are part of a unique cultural landsc...

1848, Kamehameha III granted fee-simple interest of Kalialinui to a chiefly steward, Kamaikaaloa (Kamaikaaloa), who held the land through the remainder of his lifetime, and subsequently conveyed it to his heirs. Kalalawalu—daughter of Kamaikaaloa and Kealohaaukai—and her husband, Douglas Panee, sold the land of Kalialinui to Haleakala Ranch in 1888. Most of Kalialinui, including the land that became the Waikamoi Preserve, has been held by Haleakala Ranch since that time. In the later 1800s and early 1900s, cowboys of the Haleakala Ranch traveled from the lower Kula lands to the mountain lands of Haleakala via the “Aina Hou Trail,” passing Halemau (Halemauu) and Leleiwi, and through Kalialinui, towards the Koolau Gap lands. The Aina Hou Trail passes along the contour at about the 6300-6400 foot elevation to a place known as the “Aina Hou Bowl.” The Aina Hou Bowl is generally situated between the 6300 to 5600 foot elevation, and noted for a spring which was tapped to feed a historic ranch trough. Lands in this area were used as mountain pasturage by the ranch. The 5,230-acre Waikamoi Preserve was established in 1983 through...

The Little Prince

By: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

The Little Prince is a poetic tale, with watercolour illustrations by the author, in which a pilot stranded in the desert meets a young prince fallen to Earth from a tiny asteroid. The story is philosophical and includes social criticism, remarking on the strangeness of the adult world. It was written during a period when Saint-Exupéry fled to North America subsequent to the Fall of France during the Second World War, witnessed first hand by the author and captured in his memoir Flight to Arras.[11] The adult fable, according to one review, is actually "...an allegory of Saint-Exupéry's own life—his search for childhood certainties and interior peace, his mysticism, his belief in human courage and brotherhood.... but also an allusion to the tortured nature of their relationship."...
