Sparks : Satire and Reviews

By: Ankur Mutreja

This book is an alternative representation of my thoughts, which have been more comprehensively presented in another of my books Writings @ Ankur Mutreja. I felt the need to publish this book separately to cater to the needs of those readers who don’t have much time to read books. This book is indeed a light reading. The book starts with the chapter entitled Satire, which, as the name suggests, comprises pointed attacks on the societal idiosyncrasies and hypocrisies, albeit mockingly. In the following chapter on Travel Locales, I have reviewed four disparate locations in India, attractive for their own unique appeals: Puducherry, Shillong, Auroville and Agartala. Next is the chapter on Movie Reviews & More. In the past few years, Hindi Cinema or Bollywood has seen many huge revenue collectors competing with the creativities – I don’t think the creativities need to compete with anybody. Only one huge revenue collector Ek Tha Tiger finds place in my list of reviews. I don’t like publishing my frustrations; therefore, if I have written a negative review, the movie must be really pathetic: Love, Sex and Dhoka. Other movies revie...

The Bible : Old Testament and New Testament

By: Nicolae Sfetcu, Compiler; Nicolae Sfetcu, Editor

At the first God made the heaven and the earth. And the earth was waste and without form; and it was dark on the face of the deep: and the Spirit of God was moving on the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God, looking on the light, saw that it was good: and God made a division between the light and the dark, Naming the light, Day, and the dark, Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day....

Nine Poems : Volume 1

By: Ankur Mutreja

Complex are the ways of life. Difficult it is to describe them in Black & White. Emotions are many; Words are few. And those who know them are far and few Life is a book of poems; And this is mine. Beautiful or ugly, you determine. ...

Standing frail, she diffused her smell far and wide. Not a man who was not attracted to this beauty of fairies. Not a man who didn’t wish to appropriate her for self. But her misty eyes were still poignant for love. For which vulnerability, the men staged duals a plenty. Yet she remained Virgin, for none had the limbs enough. The luxury of choice she didn't have, But her heart plotted a rebel nevertheless. An evening clouded the Sun of the West. When the sounds of prayer were sent in the air with smell. But the dog the men are, they heard only smell. And she remained Virgin, for none had the ears enough. In the morning of the sun after an endless night of hope. She dreamt of a prince of valor, chivalry and a lovely soul. He came to rescue her from the grip of darkness. And embraced her in his arms with love and dearness. Alas! Her dream broke for it was a day-dream in the Sun. And she remained Virgin, for had she not the eyes enough. . Never did she like the shabby wires inside her head. And gave all credit to her heart, eyes, face and smell. Finally, she turned to her mind in despair for help. And the a...

Bird Bomb

By: Jan De Raeymaeker

Poems by Jan De Raeymaeker

Grave talk ------------ Don't talk of graves at your tender age Not until your rickety rack is a trembling wreck Till your white-film eyes are all but blind And your toothless head is utterly deaf Until each day blinks and the world is a ghost Till you're grimly emaciated, decrepitly thin Mind overthrown, no recollection of anything Wait until the wake’s wet tears have tried to dry Till living memory is pickled in uisce beatha All pain shrieked out to a hellish banshee rattle Don't talk to me of graves until you're long gone Till clods are covering your coffin-wearing bones And a lyre plucked to softly lament your soul Until the headstone has reached weak anonymity Till its lichen-eaten rock cracks and drops Lengths of grass coiling tight in a strangling coif Don't talk to me of graves at my slender age ...

Labii Reatvmh

By: Sr. Raúl Rodriguez del Río

Dá-me pan do teu sabor a pel! Dá-me o teu ollar iridescente!...

The Education of Henry Appel and other stories

By: R. Joiner

Designed for the discriminating reader who expects a good story, good characters, and above all an aesthetic experience. It's in the language, you know? Contact me at R1234J@hotmail.com...

There goes Le Roi de Soliel rolling down the hill. Like Roy always says: the first thing you do when you open one of these gallon jugs is toss the cap away. Now, he’s tumbling down a dirt path in the Presidio with the lights of The City winking behind and the GGB, a waterfront hack’s “golden”, glistening through the light fog and beckoning dead ahead. Michigan Bob gets to Roy first to make sure the wine is intact, both of them laughing and coughing, a couple of lunatics in the darkness. Just like them to howl at a new moon as now here comes Tex plummeting down the hill to meet them, hoping he can arrest his momentum before he bowls them over like a couple of tenpins needed for a spare. ...

Elstron Table Games : The Rules of Play

By: Mu Pi Chan

The table games described in this book are based traditional tables games which have been modified to fit into a fantasy world where the inhabitants use a duodecimal numbering system (Base 12), and for whom the hexagon and numbers which are multiples 6 are of fundamental importance. When developing these table games the aim was to produce games with simple rules (easy to learn) which lead to complex outcomes (hard to master). Or to put this another way games which are non-trivial and require skill to play....

The games described in this book originally started life as part of a novel about the fantasy island of Tarron and the hominoid races (Elstron, Assen, Durns, and Jowr) that inhabited it. Within this fantasy novel The College of Arnur, in the Elstron Kingdom of Westron, played a key role in the story. The College of Arnur can best be described as a cross between a monastery and a university, within which the Table Games described in the first four sections of this book played an important role in the development of the students. The Other Games described in the fifth section were not used formally by The College of Arnur, being games more commonly played in the Castles, Halls, Inns, and Taverns of the Elstron Kingdoms of Westron, Stron, and Eastron. The purpose of this book (Volume 1) is to define the rules of the Elstron Table Games. A second book (Volume 2) will describe how these games evolved, including the games they were developed from and the sources used, along with the story of their historical development and cultural importance within the Elstron Kingdoms. The approach taken in this book (Volume 1) to defining the ru...

Testamentul domnitorului

By: Gavriil Stiharul

Nu are nicio importanţă, continuă G. imperturbabil.

Taina fecioarelor : Versuri

By: Gavriil Stiharul

Poarta Raiului : Versuri

By: Gavriil Stiharul

The Butt

By: Jan De Raeymaeker

Poems by Jan De Raeymaeker

The Butt --------- Don't forget the butt Do you feel sorry for it? Shake your head sadly at its down-trodden looks So abused, now frayed and thrown away But observe the lipstick on its collar It has felt the embrace of a woman Or some painted lips Has been ignited: set on fire with desire Has been loved – however briefly Has been longingly handled, touched: caressed Sucked on wantonly Pulled into a heaving chest It lies now, not looking the best: broken Its core crudely, publicly, exposed Its heart torn open Used and tarred, then discarded Look at that butt Feel your pity But remind yourself It has known more life and love than most in this city ...

Wild Habits of Reluctance

By: Lawrence Cottrell

...A cycle of poems of yes and no, rumors of life dancing on this islet sphere riding the blind career of outward motion. These rhymes are threnodies and hosannas among nurseries and crypts, hummings to fright hants habiting dingy trails through a wilderness, attempts to stay awhile this side the lichgate by becoming a gossip for the ineffable. They are a literary aesthetic concerning the quicksilver bric-a-brac on the shelves of this what-not of becoming, a naming of smoke, a grasping at echoes, that I might hide in posterity's pocket another day, another night, beyond the terrible hunger of the past's insatiable forgetting. They are wild habits of reluctance. ...
