Murray Central is a light rail and commuter rail station in Murray, Utah, United States served by the Blue Line and Red Line of Utah Transit Authority's (UTA) TRAX light rail system that operates in Salt Lake County and by the FrontRunner, UTA's commuter rail train that operates along the Wasatch Front with service from Pleasant View in northern Weber County through Ogden, Davis County, Salt Lake City, and Salt Lake County to Provo in central Utah County. The FrontRunner portion of the station is part of the FrontRunner South extension. The Blue Line privied service from Downtown Salt Lake City south to Draper. The Red Line provides service from the University of Utah to the Daybreak Community of South Jordan. The station is immediately west of the Intermountain Medical Center.

Description

The parking lot for TRAX is located at 5144 Cottonwood Street and is accessed from either East Vine Street on the north or 5300 (SR-173) at 100 West.[1] The parking lot for the FrontRunner is located at 140 East Vine Street.[2] However, both TRAX and the FrontRunner are easily accessed from either parking lot. To the east of the station is the Intermountain Medical Center, with its large parking lot between. Between the two free Park and Ride lots, there are nearly 1,100 parking spaces available.[3][4][Note 1] The adjacent Intermoutain Medical Center was built on the site of the former Murray Smelter. The Murray Downtown Historic District is across Little Cottonwood Creek to the northeast. The station is located within the Quiet Zone, so trains do not routinely sound their horns when approaching public crossings within this corridor.[9][10] The TRAX portion of the station opened on 4 December 2001[6] and the FrontRunner portion opened, along with the rest of the FrontRunner South, on 10 December 2012.[7] The station is operated by the Utah Transit Authority.

All of UTA's TRAX and FrontRunner trains and stations, as well as all fixed route buses, are compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act and are therefore accessible to those with disabilities.[11] Since not all FrontRunner passenger cars are wheelchair accessible, signage at the stations, on the passenger platforms, on the FrontRunner passenger cars, and TRAX trains clearly indicate accessibility options. In addition, each FrontRunner train has one or more Train Hosts available to provide assistance as may be needed, including the placement of ramps for wheelchair boarding.[12] Ramps on the passenger platforms on the Blue Line and assistance from the train operator may be necessary for wheelchair boarding (weekdays only). These ramps are not used on weekends nor on the Red Line. In accordance with the Utah Clean Air Act and UTA ordinance, "smoking is prohibited on UTA vehicles as well as UTA bus stops, TRAX stations, and FrontRunner stations".[13]
