TW Telecom (styled tw telecom), headquartered in Lone Tree, Colorado, United States, provides business class managed voice, Internet and data network services, specializing in Ethernet and transport data networking, Internet access, local and long distance voice, VoIP and security, to enterprise organizations and communications services companies throughout the U.S. and globally.

tw telecom was originally founded as Time Warner Communications in 1993 as a joint venture between U S West and Time Warner Cable. Time Warner Telecom rapidly evolved into a business provider specializing in fiber-based last mile solutions.

In July 1998, Time Warner Communications became a separate entity and was reorganized into Time Warner Telecom LLC. In May 1999, the company had an initial public offering. Since 1997, the company has delivered communications services to medium and large business customers, including carriers and governmental entities. In March 2003, the company was one of the first in the country to introduce Metro Ethernet services, an expansion of the Ethernet model for building-wide communications networks. The metro capability basically expanded the use of Ethernet across a city or region allowing for seamless connectivity of locations that were on the same network ring. This capability provided for the expansion of offerings such advanced Internet, data and voice services.[2]

In July 2006, Time Warner Telecom acquired Xspedius Communications for $531.5 million, thereby gaining access to 31 additional metropolitan markets in the process.[3][4] Today tw telecom operates in 75 markets nationwide, with more than 27,000[5] route miles of fiber and more than 10,000 commercial buildings "on-net".[6] They company maintains two 24/7 NOCs (Network Operations Centers) located in Denver, Colorado and O’Fallon, Missouri.

On July 1, 2008, the company officially changed its name to tw telecom.[7]

Prior to the Xspedius merger, tw telecom sold its products exclusively through local direct sales teams in each of its markets. When tw telecom acquired Xspedius it acquired both the telecom assets (fiber routes) and the agent channel, which is still led today by VP of Sales Dale Kammerich.[8]
