INTRODUCTION During the past two years, cclnsidcrable progress has been made in our knowledge of Anopheles gambiae Giles. The practical implications of t h i s further knowledge w i l l undoubtedly affect the strategy of campaigns for the eradication of malaria i n Africa. The contributions of Davidson & Jackson (1962), Davidson (1962, 15~63)~ Paterson (1962, 1963a, b and c ), Burgess (1962), and Paterson, Paterson & van Eeeden (1963a .and b) have provided sound genetic 'evidence of the ,existence of at least five partially incompatible forms.
