Excerpt: Appeal to a friend who feels she is too busy with local concerns to protest against slavery. Cabot argues that as a Christian, one must be concerned with the welfare of those who are far off, as well as those who are near. LETTER TO A FRIEND. I CANNOT feel satisfied without having a few more words with you upon the subject we were discussing last evening. You said, in reply to some of the remarks I made upon the necessity of our doing all we could for the slaves, that you found so much evil around you to overcome, so much care to be bestowed upon those nearest to you, that you had no time or thought to bestow upon the slaves;
