Excerpt: The National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service (NESDIS) requests $963.9 million in FY 2006, reflecting a net increase of +$72.3M over the FY 2006 base level. This budget request supports NOAA?s satellites, data centers, and related services as they relate to the performance of NOAA?s mission to the Nation. FY 2006 Program Changes Environmental Satellite Observing Services +$1.6M: Funds will be used for NOAA?s preparations to operate the Ocean Surface Topography Mission (OSTM) satellite known as Jason 2, and for expanding NOAA?s ability to process data and produce operational products for warnings and forecasts from that and other non-NOAA satellites. In partnership with NASA and other national and international agencies, NOAA?s operations of Jason 2 will deliver performance improvements to NOAA?s weather and climate missions through the use of satellite altimetry data.
