Recognizing the world-wide extent of poliomyelitis, the disease was placed under international surveillance by virtue of World Health Assembly resolution WHA22.47 m 1969.ember States were requested to inform the Organization of outbreaks of paralytic poliomyelitis occurring in any areas of their temtories and to supplement reports on such outbreaks by information on the source and type of the disease and the number of cam and deaths.
