Excerpt: The Facts -- Hawaiian children are under-represented in K-12 private schools across the country. -- Kamehameha Schools contributes substantially to increasing access for indigenous Hawaiians to private school education. -- In 2000, Kamehameha Schools served roughly five percent of all Hawaiian K-12 children in the state. Without Kamehameha Schools, non-Hawaiian children would be more than twice as likely to attend private schools as Hawaiian children. -- In 2003, more than half (55 percent) of all Hawaiian private school students in Hawai?i were enrolled at Kamehameha Schools.
