Excerpt: We're pleased to be here to give you an overview of the Department of Energy's budget for the next fiscal year. At $24.3 billion, the FY '05 budget request will be the largest in the history of this department. This year's budget proposal represents a nearly 4 percent increase over last year's submission and an increase of about 27 percent since we took office in 2001. Those figures reflect the president's confidence in the work done here as well as the importance I think he attaches to this department's mission.
