A Flash of Light : A Guide to Meditation in Reducing Stress
Having qualified in laboratory medicine in 1965 my speciality was in tropical medicine and clinical biochemistry. In 1985 I had my own medical practice in Harley Street and further specialised in allergy and preventative medicine, providing health screening and stress assessment to corporate clients.
In 1980 I travelled to India where I was fortunate to have met with H.H. Dalai Lama and following discussion with His Holiness decided to spend 12 months in Dharamsala to train and develop a clinical laboratory service for the Tibetan Refugees living in exile. The laboratory has expanded over the past 30 years and now provides a very useful service to the Tibetan and local Indian community. It was also during this time that I first became interested in meditation.
Since then I have engaged in further training and undergone many meditation retreats for periods ranging from 10 days to 90 days of intense retreat. I have studied with many meditation masters including His Holiness Dalai Lama. Over the past 30 years.
In 2006 I retired from a full time career in medicine and decided to live and study full time in Dharamsala, Northern India.
Whilst living in India I also travelled to Thailand, Cambodia, Burma and Lao learning many meditation techniques. Whilst I would not consider my self a master I am certainly very experienced and my skills in teaching to a wide audience are well established.
I have taught individuals as well as groups and enjoy the experience of teaching these skills to others. Meditation is becoming very widely accepted and has proven to improve concentration, health and well-being as well as having a positive effect on the immune system.
